The Secretary of State of Rural Environment and Water, Josep Puxeu, has inaugurated in Elche, the works of the Irrigation Community of Levante, work carried out by the state company SEIASA de la Meseta Sur (of the south plate). The works have meant the building of some pipes of water collection with their corresponding pumping stations, as the construction of its own distribution net.

The act has been chaired by the Secretary of State Josex Puxeu, the Mayor of Elche, Alejandro Soler, the head of the regional government of Environment, Juan Cotino and the president of SEIASA de la Meseta Sur (of the south plate), Francisco Rodriguez Mulero. To the act they also assisted the president of the Hydrographical confederation of the Segura River, José Salvador Fuentes Zorita and the General Director of ACUAMED, Carlos Massa.

The importance of the work lies in the investment made by the Ministry of Environment, and the Rural and Marine Environment that ascends to 20 million Euros and especially by the capacity of the infrastructure as it means to give service to 7.000 members of the Irrigation Community of Levante.

The introduction of new irrigation technologies is a requirement for a better management and rationalization of the available resources, that is why the installation of a system of irrigation by drip irrigation, automated and computerized has to be a constant feature in the future actions and represents the actual tendency in the evolution of the irrigation system.

The Irrigation Community has decided to make possible the installation of the drip irrigation system in all the irrigable area, undertaking an improvement and modernization Plan of its irrigated lands that brings out a change in the system of irrigation. Also the improvement of the management, by means of the installation of a system of automatizing and control that allows optimizing technical and economically the exploitation of the hydraulic net projected.

It is about optimizing the distribution and use of water, to reduce the cost of exploitation and achieve a more efficient use, by means of the construction of a pressured net in all the area that allows having filtered water in each plot and control de volume consumed by each irrigator that will have fire hydrants in each plot.
