Rover Alcisa puts into service the new underground route of L1 passing through Benimàmet

Rover Alcisa has successfully completed the work on the underground and the new stations of Carolines and Benimamet on line 1 of Metrovalencia. The new route runs through an underground route that has replaced the old surface stations of Benimamet and Les Carolines Benimamet-Fira.

With the execution of this work it has become possible to shorter journey times of trains and increase traffic safety in the area eliminating two crossings.

The final work of connecting roads began last Friday, April 13 and after two days of uninterrupted work on Sunday May 15 at 9:30 am the new underground route was put into service.

The construction of the underground is an extension of the Metro network aimed at creating a pleasant urban space and respecting the environment, integrating the rail and removing the barrier that generates the current railway in the city, and consequently increase the safety of crossing.

Phase 1: Infrastructure

This phase includes the implementation of the 'infrastructure of the modification work and covering ground track in the environment of the Benimamet station. "The completion of infrastructure work to amend the ground and covering the road in the vicinity of the station Benimámet is projected by the system 'Cut & Cover', through which the tunnel is materialized through the execution of some walls -screen piles that serve as temporary support and final spot. On these walls and prior to the completion of the excavation of the tunnel, the running deck slabs, allowing rapid replenishment of the affected traffic are executed, and finally the execution of the bottom slab.

Because of the overlap in plant stretch run underground and surface roads, it was necessary to run three railway turnouts, including a station to run the action. The total length of these three deviations was approximately 1150 m. Diversions track in ballast carried on crosspiece and UIC-54 rail, with the conventional catenaries. The underground section, performed as described above, has a total length of 1531.86 meters, running 1138.34 meters in tunnels, ramps and 280.04 m to 113.48 meters above ground.

The underground part is subdivided, in turn, in two stations and tunnel section, as follows: Construction of the station Les Carolines, under grounded, with lobby area, central platform of 9.2 m wide and 90 m in length, relating the Northern Benimámet, its facilities and new development areas.

Stretch of track in tunnel and trench 1411.03 m. As an underground in urban areas, has required the replacement of many of services affected, such as telephone, water, sanitation, gas, services of the company of communications Ono, and electricity. During the execution of the works all the adjacent buildings and the tunnel itself, have been auscultated in order to check the condition of the work in its environment.


Phase 2: Superstructure, station facilities and architecture

In this second phase, it has been made: the track superstructure works, electrification, and construction of stations. Conceptually, each station is treated as a single volume as a prismatic lantern dropped on the bed of a park. Volume requirement serves no air conditioning to be treated as a covered, impermeable and non air-conditioned which can be crossed walking without entering the station.
